Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has initiated the works for the first ever 800 mega watt supercritical-set-based power plant in Tamil Nadu, for which the state government allotted the land in January this year.

The company has conducted Bhoomi Pooja of the 1x800 MW North Chennai Super Critical TPS Stage III.

According to an announcement by the company, the project, valued at Rs 2,759 crore, is coming up in the Thiruvallur district, and it is slated for commissioning by August 2019.

BHEL will be handling the main plant package contract for the project.

The state discom, TANGEDCO, has also recently entrusted BHEL with another order to set up of the main plant package for the 2x800 mw Uppur Supercritical Thermal Power Project in the state.
