Q&A with outgoing CMD, Air India

Indian Railway Service official Ashwani Lohani is set to succeed Rohit Nandan as the next chairman and managing director of Air India.

Nandan's tenure saw the airline joining the Star Alliance but also an increase in competition in domestic and international skies. He spoke to Business Standard.

What would you rate as your big achievements as chairman of Air India?

I see  Air India's induction into Star Alliance and industrial peace in the airline as the big achievements. In the last three and half years not a single man day was lost.

What do you feel were the biggest challenges?

The big challenge was to maintain flight schedules and financial revival of the airline.

Any big regret?

The big regret is that we have been unable to achieve our asset monetisation targets.
