Bpl Mobile To Sell Worldspace Radio Products

BPL Mobile, the cellular operator in Mumbai, has forged a marketing alliance with WorldSpace Corporation, distributor of multimedia and satellite digital radio broadcasting services.

Initially, BPL will showcase WorldSpace's technology products and services across 16 BPL Mobile galleries.

As part of the tie-up, BPL will offer a special festive offer to their subscribers. BPL users will get a discount of 12 per cent on the WorldSpace Satellite Radio receivers.

It is available to all BPL Mobile and prepaid subscribers. The users will receive 8 per cent on the maximum retail price and the balance four per cent as free airtime on its mobile phone. Users can also dial 745 from their BPL mobile handsets to book and get home delivery of receivers.

"With the WorldSpace tie-up, we are offering the latest in entertainment technology to our subscribers," Kunal Ramteke, head of marketing, BPL Mobile said in a press release.

WorldSpace Corporation will cash in on the present cellular subscriber-base and the marketing strengths of BPL Mobile. The cellular operator has over 3.5 lakh users in Mumbai and distribution strength of more than 16 galleries and 3,500 outlets across the city.

According to the press release, the WorldSpace multilingual service offers a wide range of programming with digital-quality sound. Powered by three satellite in deep space, WorldSpace beams down exclusive channels of Rock, Pop, Jazz, Dance, Reggae, among others.

The company broadcasts music across 18 time zones, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It also offers news from international broadcasters like BBC, CNN and Bloomberg. At present, the Indian broadcasters on the WorldSpace platform include BPL Indigo, Radio Mid-Day, RM Radio and the Asianet group.
