Carborundum Universal net profit down 21%

Murugappa Group firm Carborundum Universal Ltd has posted a decrease of 21% in net profit at Rs 28.95 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2013, as against Rs 36.67 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year.
The total income from operations stood at Rs 560.76 crore for the quarter, as compared to Rs 528.34 crore registered during the same period of last financial year, an increase of 6.14%.
The company said that the sales growth was driven by the performance of both the Indian and overseas operations and the margins came under pressure due to the rising input cost, depreciation of rupee and a challenging customer market.
