After much dilly-dallying, the new industrial policy for Chandigarh could finally see the light of day. Chamber of Chandigarh Industries president Vinod Mittal said a high-level committee meeting chaired by Advisor to the Administrator Pradeep Mehra, was held recently. In the meeting, joint forum of Chamber of Chamber of Chandigarh Industries and Industries’ Association of Chandigarh apprised the committee about genuine demands of the industries in Chandigarh.

Mittal said the administration had been responsive towards the demands of industries and they were hoping that genuine demands lobbied by the industrial association would be addressed.

The new industrial policy framed by the Union Territory (UT) administration envisages promotion of micro, medium and small industries in Chandigarh.

The Chandigarh industrial policy was earlier slated to be implemented by August. But the policy failed to cut ice with various industrial associations who had been opposing it. The industries’ association was challenging certain contentious issues in the policy, which, according to them did not augur well for the industrial growth.

Industries in Chandigarh have been demanding conversion of lease hold industrial plots to free hold, like in other states. Also the industrialists are demanding increase in floor area ratio for the industries in Chandigarh, since space for horizontal expansion was limited in Chandigarh.
