In further impetus to the ambitious Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC) project, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion(DIPP) here held a kick-off meeting for the preparation of master plan in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

JICA has appointed consultants for a study of the project. The study will cover an area of 560 km spread across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, along the corridor between Chennai-Bengaluru-Chitradurga and will cost about 60 crore Yen (Rs 37 crore approximately). This will help in arriving at the total cost of the project.

The study team will prepare a Comprehensive Regional Perspective Plan for the CBIC Region, along with developing strategy for transforming the region into a globally competitive investment destination through discussions among government/governmental agencies and the private sector of both India and Japan.

The study team will also identify suitable nodes to be taken up for industrial development within the target and prepare Master Plan and Development Plan for at least two selected Industrial nodes, along with techno Economic feasibility study of Early Bird Projects in the two nodes.

According to Shinya Ejima,Chief representative of JICA in India, “Developing the infrastructure around CBIC  is very important for creating the industrial belt on Chennai Bengaluru corridor. Improved infrastructure  is immensely important for attracting investment in the region which will fuel employment and comprehensive development of the whole region. The study group recommendation in that regards holds lot of importance and would help in faster implementation of the project.”
