The state Crime Investigation Department (CID) began its investigation into Satyam Computers' scandal after the Andhra Pradesh government gave its nod today. It is learnt that Director General of Police SSP Yadav will supervise the investigation. The DGP held a meeting with CID additional director general A Sivanarayana, inspector general (economic offence wing) VSK Kaumudi and other senior officials today and reviewed the case. He also discussed the matter with chief secretary.
Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy directed the state chief secretary to evaluate the projects under execution by Maytas, promoted by Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju and family.
Besides the Rs 12,000-crore Hyderabad Metro Rail project, the Maytas-led consortia have bagged projects like the Godavari drinking water supply scheme for Hyderabad, Rs 1,500 crore Machilipatnam Deep Water Port and various irrigation projects worth over Rs 1,500 crore under the Jalayagnam programme.
The government is particularly worried about the metro rail project, Machilipatnam Port and the Godavari water supply projects. However, it is learnt that there is little scope for the government to cancel the metro rail project till the company achieves financial closure.
The Maytas-led consortium is to obtain financial closure for the Hyderabad Metro rail project by March. Same is the case with the Machilipatnam Port.
Officials of the municipal administration and urban development departments have already reviewed various other projects taken up by the Maytas group.
