Asian financial services major DBS Group Holdings today announced the appointment of Piyush Gupta, who is currently with Citigroup, as Chief Executive Officer of the company.

Gupta, a veteran banker has spent over two-thirds of his 27-year career in South East Asia and Hong Kong, including eight years in Singapore, has been appointed as the CEO, DBS said in a statement.

Gupta, a permanent resident of Singapore, is at present Citigroup's CEO for South East Asia-Pacific, covering ASEAN (Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Brunei), Australia, New Zealand and Guam.

His appointment is subject to regulatory approval, and he will join the bank in November, the DBS statement added.

In this role at Citi Gupta's responsibilities encompass all of its businesses including financial markets, corporate and investment banking, transaction services, credit cards, retail banking and wealth management.

"My fellow directors and I are delighted that Piyush will be joining the bank. He is a versatile and experienced banker who has spent 20 years in South East Asia and Hong Kong. We are confident he will help to strengthen our franchise and grow our footprint in Asia," DBS Chairman Koh Boon Hwee said.

DBS is focused on extending its end-to-end services to facilitate capital within fast-growing countries like Indonesia and India.
