Lanco Infratech has said that more than 5,000 MW of its planned and existing generation capacity would get a boost from Coal India's decision to sign fuel supply pacts for power projects.

"It is a positive step and Coal India agreeing to ink Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) will benefit Lanco's power generation capacity of over 5,000 MW. This includes both planned and existing capacities," Lanco Infratech CEO (Thermal) K Raja Gopal told PTI.

The move would benefit three of the company's upcoming projects -- unit III and IV Amarkantak in Chattisgarh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra and Babandh in Orissa. All these have a capacity of 1,320 MW each and their total capacity would be 3,960 MW.

The Orissa project has coal mine for one 660 MW unit, Raja Gopal said.

As a result, Coal India's decision would boost Lanco's upcoming capacity of about 3,300 MW, he added.

In addition, Lanco would get coal linkages for existing two units of 300 MW each of Amarkantak project as well as 1,200 MW Anpara project in Uttar Pradesh.

The Prime Minister's Office on Wednesday said that Coal India would sign Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) by March-end to power projects commissioned up to December 2011.

These pacts would also be inked for power projects -- having long term power purchase agreements -- that have been commissioned or would get commissioned on or before March 31, 2015.

A leading private power producer, Lanco Infratech has an installed capacity of about 4,400 MW.
