To benefit from the ongoing digitisation further, Zee Group’s direct-to-home (DTH) company Dish TV India Limited on Tuesday launched Dish+, which it claims to be the country’s first standard definition (SD) set-top box with unlimited recording facility, across 42 digitised cities .
“Digitisation opportunity is around the corner, which will help us garner a larger market share,” Virendra Kumar Gupta, chief operating officer (information technology), Dish TV, told mediapersons in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Priced at Rs 1,790 (including installation charges of Rs 200), Dish+ comes with a free 4GB pen drive as part of the inaugural offer. The set-top box is compatible with any USB device enabling users to plug-n-play an existing USB stick, besides recording and playing back programmes, and pausing or rewinding live TV.
Dish TV has added 540,000 subscribers in the first quarter ended June 2012, taking its user base to 13.4 million, and market share to around 30 per cent on an all-India basis.
“We are positioning Dish+ as a better alternative for all viewers who will shift from analog to digital. Riding on the digitisation wave, we intend to grow our market share by 30 to 40 per cent in each of the 42 cities where Dish+ is being launched,” Gupta said.
Dish TV’s scrip surged 2.17 per cent to end the trade at Rs 72.90 on the BSE on Tuesday, over the previous close of Rs 71.35.
