S Prakash, southern Indian chief of DLF Home Developers, a unit of the country’s biggest real estate company, has quit. His resignation comes amid controversies surrounding the DLF’s Bangalore project and also as it faces consumer ire at its Chennai project.

However, DLF said Prakash had retired and not resigned from the company.  A new chief for the region is yet to be named.

Prakash was a senior company representative involved in the development of the two projects in Chennai and Bangalore.

DLF Limited has run into trouble with Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP), the state-owned body which authorises all residential projects in Bangalore.

In a public announcement, BBMP had stated that DLF Homes had not obtained any approval or sanction plan from BBMP to build an 18-storey complex, named Westend Heights, at New Town, DLF BTM Extension, in South Bangalore.

The company is also facing a problem at Chennai, where customers who have booked flats at Garden City, a township promoted by DLF Homes has given exit letters. It is estimated over 700 customers have given exit letters and the company has started the refunding process.
