Domestic air traffic up 16% in June

Indigo continues to dominate the market, driving more than one-third traffic

Domestic air traffic rose 16.03 per cent in June compared to same period last year and Indigo continued to dominate the market, driving more than a third of traffic.

However, the growth is slightly lower than that witnessed in May when the traffic rose by 18.35 per cent.

The growth in air traffic in the first half of the year surged by 19.81 per cent compared to 4.51 per cent in the same period last year.

In January-June this year, domestic airlines flew 38.8 million passengers as against 32.4 million in the same period last year.

 

In June, airlines ferried 6.6 million passengers compared to 5.7 million same month last year. Except SpiceJet and Air Asia, the occupancy declined for all the airlines over the previous month.

SpiceJet reported the highest load factor of 93.2 per cent followed by IndiGo (86.6 per cent) and AirAsia (84 per cent) in June. Vistara's loads declined the most from 71.1 per cent in May to 59.3 per cent in June.

Vistara topped the list for on-time performance with 95.6 per cent punctuality record followed by AirAsia, IndiGo and Jet Airways all of which reported punctuality between 80-87 per cent.

In April-June, IndiGo's market share rose to 38.4 per cent compared to 36.6 per cent in the previous quarter this year. Market share of SpiceJet and two new airlines -- Air Asia and Vistara rose in April-June compared to previous quarter but all other airlines reported a decline.
