Hong Kong-based DuPont Apollo Ltd has entered into a strategic supply agreement with Wipro EcoEnergy, a part of India's Wipro Ltd, to supply high- performance silicon-based thin film to the latter's upcoming grid-based solar power projects.

Under the terms of this supply agreement, DuPont Apollo will provide Wipro EcoEnergy with thin film photovoltaic (PV) modules. The first phase of the supply agreement will be completed by first quarter of 2012.

The two companies, however, did not disclose the financials invloved in the agreement.

"We see DuPont Apollo as a supplier of reliable silicon- based thin film PV modules that are especially fit for the hot climatic conditions of India due to their superior performance under high-temperature conditions," Wipro EcoEnergy president G K Prasanna said in a statement.

Commenting on the agreement, DuPont Apollo CEO David Chu said: "Contributing to the strong and sustainable growth of the Indian PV market is a major milestone for us, we are excited that Wipro has chosen to collaborate with DuPont Apollo for their solar projects in the country."

Du Pont Apollo Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of DuPont specialising in silicon-based thin film photovoltaic modules.

The agreement comes at a time when the solar industry is poised for a leap following the launch of India's National Solar Mission in January last year that aims to generate 20,000 MW of solar power by 2022.
