The boom in the telecom sector, coupled with its capacity expansion programme, is expected to help Chennai-based ebm-Nadi International, an Indo-German JV engaged in the manufacture of industrial cooling fans, to reach a turnover of Rs 200 crore by 2010-11 from Rs 42 crore in 2006-07.

ebm-Nadi, a 51:49 joint venture between 1 billion euro ebm-papst of Germany and Nadi Airtechnics, Chennai, has been growing at a 300 per cent peg over the past three years.

The company expects to grow by 100 per cent over the next 3-4 years. "This is a conservative estimate," JB Kamdar, managing director, ebm-Nadi, said.

Kamdar said the telecom sector boom was driving robust demand for cooling fans. As most of the telecom service providers are going in for major infrastructure expansion, the company sees a huge market to sell its energy-efficient fans that could be used in shelters under their mobile towers.

He claimed that ebm products would help achieve substantial savings on power costs. The company has already secured an order from Reliance Communications for 5,000 units and expects to target other telecom service providers too.

While ebm-Nadi claims to have garnered a market share of about 50 per cent in the industrial cooling fans market, the remaining 50 per cent of the demand is reported to be met through imports from China and Taiwan.

The company expects telecom business to account for about 65 per cent of its targeted turnover of Rs 85 crore by the end of this fiscal when the market size for industrial fans is estimated to reach Rs 180 crore.ebm-Nadi has expanded capacities by investing Rs 5.6 crore in a new warehouse and an additional facility to produce 200 radial fans a day. These fans will be used in the telecom industry, panel air-conditioners and heat exchangers.
