Ambulance service provider Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) asked the members of Satyam Computer Services founder B Ramalinga Raju's family to delink themselves from EMRI in view of the current circumstances with Satyam and in the interest of future operations of EMRI.

The board, which met today and the chairmanship of Carnegie Mellon University professor Raj Reddy, accordingly suggested amendments of articles of association of EMRI to ensure that the governing board is appointed by an independent group and that there is a self-regulating, sustainable, accountable mechanism of governance.

In view of the proposal to make its board independent, the EMRI has requested former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam to reconsider his resignation and take up the role of chairman emeritus of EMRI.

The board, however, unanimously acknowledged the initiative of the Raju family, which saved the lives of many people across the states.

Board members, including Lok Satta national convenor Jayaprakash Narayan, Indo American Cancer Institute Secretary K Krishnam Raju and EMRI Chief Executive Officer Venkat Changavalli attended the meeting. Indian School of Business board Chairman Rajat Gupta  participated in the meeting over telephone as he was abroad.
