Flipkart names ex-Google executive Punit Soni as product head

Soni has earlier been vice president of product management at Motorola and also a Google product management executive

E-commerce major Flipkart, which has been on a spree to hire top-level leaders over the last few months, has brought on board Punit Soni as its chief product officer. Soni has earlier been vice president of product management at Motorola and also a Google product management executive.

Soni will be responsible for driving the product strategy for Flipkart and oversee design and product marketing functions. He will work towards building a "world class user interface and product solutions" for the Bengaluru-based e-tailer.

"The next stage of Flipkart is here. As we build a leading-edge technology company, we are pleased to welcome Soni to Bangalore to lead our product-related initiatives," Mukesh Bansal, Flipkart's head of commerce platform said. "His deep experience in launching successful tech-related products and his extensive relationships in the US and abroad will help Flipkart stay on the cutting edge."

In hie previous roles at Google and Motorola Soni was based out of California and was involved in the development of some revolutionary products such as Google News, Google Books, Google Plus, Google Mobile and a suite of Motorola devices including Moto X, Moto G and Moto E.

Soni holds an undergraduate degree in electronics and communications engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, and a masters degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming. He also holds an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
