German firm in the food ordering space Delivery Hero has partnered with Pune based  start-up and online food ordering service portal TastyKhana by investing over Rs 30 crore (USD 5 million).

Delivery Hero operates across the globe in European and Asian markets. The added business, technological and financial strength will help TastyKhana further refine the consumer experience and cement their position in the fast-growing space of online food ordering.

Commenting on this, Shachin Bharadwaj Founder and CEO Tastykhana.com said, "The German firm will bring in their technology expertise and global best practices to boost business aggressively. Our target would be to clock a revenue of 100 crore in next five years. The strategic partnership we get access to a global knowledge base as DH is operating in 14 markets including China, UK, Germany, Mexico and South Korea. These insights have been helping us to better refine our service by implementing best-practices and leveraging an advanced technology platform. Customers and the restaurant network are already benefiting with a better experience."

In financial year 2012-13, TastyKhana has generated a total business of Rs 8.5 crore for the hotels. "The strength in our core markets allows us to invest in smaller, innovative companies like TastyKhana to accompany them with technological know-how and financial resources on their way to top," said Niklas Östberg, CEO of Delivery Hero, on the partnership.

Delivery Hero had previously invested a seed round in early 2012 when TastyKhana was servicing only two cities; Pune and Mumbai. Since then, TastyKhana have managed to scale to seven cities (Bangalore, Noida, Gurgaon and New Delhi) with over 3000 restaurants and an order volume growth of over 400 per cent. TastyKhana is already pioneering the mobile market with custom mobile apps for iOS, Android and Blackberry for a super fast mobile ordering experience."
