The National Productivity Council (NCP) today awarded certificates of appreciation to five manufacturing units in Andhra Pradesh under the United Nation's Greenhouse gas Emission Reduction in Industry in Asia and Pacific (GERIAP) project here today.
 
These units, namely Vizag Steel Plant, ITC Badrachalam, Ckoramaandel Cements Limited, Active Carbon and Siflon Drugs Limited have implemented measures resulting in energy and environmental conservation in accordance with the benchmarks prescribed under this project.
 
GERIAP is a three-year project assisting Asian companies to become more energy and cost-efficient through Cleaner Production (CP). CP is a strategy that prevents wastes and emissions and can assist companies to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and costs.
 
A S Kumar, regional director of NPC, gave away the certificates of appreciation to the representatives of five companies at a function here today.
 
The NPC has been assigned for India the task of implementing the project in selected representative industries to prove that the methodology is universally applicable, irrespective of the type of industry.
