Gridco, OPTCL incur losses in 2009-10

Five out of 32 state public sector undertakings (PSUs) operating in Orissa have incurred Rs 276.5 crore loss in 2009-10.

The PSUs are Grid Corporation of Orissa- Gridco (Rs 146.52 crore), Orissa Power Transmission Corporation-OPTCL (Rs 76.47 crore), Konark Jute (Rs 9.9 crore), Idcol Kalinga Iron Works (Rs 39.61 crore) and Orissa Pisciculture Development Corporation-OPDC (Rs 4 crore).

According to information provided by A U Singh Deo, minister for planning & coordination on the floor of the house, Gridco which made a profit of Rs 566.05 crore and Rs 98.13 crore in 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively plunged into red in 2009-10.

Two state PSUs-Agriculture Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa Ltd (Apicol) and Orissa State Civil Supplies Corporation neither registered profit nor incurred loss during 2009-10.

The most profitable PSU was Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC) which clocked a profit of Rs 716.86 crore in 2009-10. OMC posted profits of Rs 1052.85 crore and Rs 1236.87 crore in 2007-08 and 2008-09 respectively.

Next is the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation of Orissa Ltd (Idco) which recorded a profit of Rs 58.40 crore in the last fiscal.

Other profitable state PSUs are Orissa Agro Industries Corporation (Rs 3.29 crore), Orissa State Seeds Corporation (Rs 4.19 crore), Orissa State Cashew Development Corporation (Rs 1.30 crore), Orissa Forest Development Corporation (Rs 3.55 crore), Orissa Construction Corporation (Rs 1.36 crore), Orissa Bridge & Construction Corporation (Rs 1.71 crore), Orissa Power Generation Corporation (Rs 27.14 crore), Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of and Orissa Ltd (Rs 1.07 crore) among others.
