The state-run Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (Idco) has urged the Falta Special Economic Zone (SEZ) to issue the letter of permission (LoP) to IT major Infosys to start operations at its second development centre in Bhubaneswar at Info-valley IT/ITes SEZ, located on the outskirts of the city.

Infosys, the anchor tenant of the project, had been allotted 50.19 acres of land at Info-valley being developed by Idco over 500 acres. The IT behemoth has also been allowed to act as a co-developer of the SEZ by the Union Commerce Ministry. After executing the lease deed with Idco for the land on August 29, 2013, Infosys had sought a consent letter from Idco to obtain LoP from the development commissioner, FALTA SEZ. Acting on the request, Idco has conveyed its consent to Infosys for operationalizaton of its unit in accordance with the Clause 18 sub clause 2(ii) of SEZ rule, 2006 of Government of India.

"It is, therefore, requested to issue LoP to Infosys Ltd for operationalization of their unit in Info-valley SEZ," Vishal Dev, Chairman cum Managing Director, Idco wrote to the Zonal Development Commissioner, FALTA SEZ.

The IT major has informed the state government to start its centre by July with 1,000 head counts initially. The matter was discussed at an inter-departmental high powered project monitoring committee held recently. The development of Info-valley complex is significant as the state's new ICT policy aims to achieve a turnover (including exports of software and IT services and Electronic System Design Manufacturing, domestic consumption and training) of four billion dollar by 2020.
