The Indian Angel Network (IAN) has invested Rs 3.5 crore in Gurgaon-based car pooling app Orahi. IAN Investors Vinish Kathuria and Amandeep Gupta, who led the round, will join the board of Orahi.

The app , which facilitates car poolers in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida, will use IAN’s investment to enhance the product and its functionalities, grow the team, increase users and enhance its presence as the most efficient car pooling app.

Stating that Orahi has grown dramatically with over 1.6-million kilometres shared, reducing 320 tonnes of carbon emissions in Delhi, the company said during the ongoing odd-even days initiative, it saw its registrations increasing to 300 per cent and car rides to 250 per cent.

“We are one of the very few companies across the world that has been able to crack the difficult model of car-pooling for the users —  bringing in trust, speed, credibility and safety while helping bring down traffic congestion and pollution,” Sameer Khanna, founder and chief executive officer of Orahi, said.

“India has 30 million cars on road and we are going to target 10 per cent of these cars to enable carpooling in the next two years.”
