Industrial workers saw rise in inflation in May
Food inflation for industrial workers rose 13.24% in May against 12.39 in the previous month
Somesh Jha New Delhi Even as there was some respite in the overall retail inflation for May, there was no relief for industrial workers. The Consumer Price Index-based inflation for items consumed by industrial workers rose 0.44 percentage points at 10.68% in May from 10.24% in April.
This was even higher than what it was in the corresponding month last year when it stood at 10.16%, according to data released by Ministry of Labour and Employment today.
The Ministry attributed this rise to expensive food items. Food inflation for industrial workers rose 13.24% in May against 12.39 in the previous month.
Overall CPI-based inflation fell to 9.31% in May this year from 9.37% in the previous month, according to official data released earlier this month.
Besides assessing the impact of price rise on industrial workers, CPI-IW is used for calculating dearness allowance for government employees as well as other workers.
