Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of software major Infosys, has signed a pact with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore to offer a grant worth Rs 5 crore to strengthen research on infectious diseases.

The objective of the memorandum understanding (MoU) is to enhance infrastructure and broaden research activities at the Centre for Infectious Diseases Research (CIDR) at IISc, said the Foundation in a statement. "The grant of INR 5 crore will be used towards research, training and creating awareness about infectious diseases, benefiting 25 faculty members and 250 students at IISc."

IISc Bangalore facilitates research and higher education in all science and engineering disciplines.

This association will primarily focus on research about infectious diseases and aid the institution in the development of new drug targets, drug delivery systems and diagnostic tools.

"With this MoU, Infosys Foundation aims to set milestones in the area of research of infectious diseases. We will focus on motivating researchers to perform cutting-edge research, as well as train them to raise awareness about infectious diseases," said Sudha Murty, chairperson of Infosys Foundation.
