Infosys Australia has announced that it has delivered a new $4.5 million software application that will enable the Victorian government's department of infrastructure (DoI) to manage its public transport bus services contracts worth $450 million per annum.

The Victorian government will follow the PASS (Privatised Arrangements Support Systems) Bus System, which is a suite of business applications. These applications facilitate improved management of public transport bus contracts, enabling efficiencies and effectiveness in achieving better public transport outcomes.

Currently, the Victorian government manages over 1,700 individual bus contracts across 1,600 bus operators, covering metropolitan, regional and school bus services.

The new system is likely to provide a more controlled and automated approach to the management of these contracts. Such a system is also expected to pave the way for new contract types in future.

The project provides the government with a reusable technical architecture that reduces time and cost of future automation projects.

Infosys Australia commenced the project in December 2002. Efforts of DoI officials and Infosys Australia's business and technical experts ensured that that project could be delivered on time and at the right budget.

The department's team of nearly 15 persons worked alongside Infosys Australia's local team of 40 persons to deliver the system, recently deployed into DoI's existing IT infrastructure.
