With a number of new IT startups having come up in the last one year, the IT industry in Gujarat is expecting a jump of 10-15% in software exports. The software exports in the state are expected to touch around Rs 1800 crore roughly.

According to industry players, start-ups have mushroomed across the state, especially in major verticals like mobile app development and web-based development.

"Lot of new start-ups have come up, especially in segments like mobile app development and web-based development. This has helped the state to extend its global reach. This could help the state garner a higher software exports," said Nirav Shah, director of Jayatma Informatics Private Limited and former president of Gujarat Electronics and Software Industries Association (GESIA).

What's more, coupled with new start-ups, the ecosystem of incubation centres as well as existing seasoned IT firms have also contributed to estimation of enhanced exports.

"Not just new start-ups, but also the whole ecosystem of incubation centres and mentoring bodies like TiE have also contributed to the growth. Add to that, the existing IT firms are also pushing the envelope and reaching out to new territories abroad. All this is expected to push the exports this year," said Rajan Vasa, former president, TiE Ahmedabad and CMD, Contech BPO Services Pvt. Ltd.

There are roughly over 1200 IT firms in Gujarat, of which industry players say about 1000 are active.
