Plans 50 Mw solar project in the region.
Jaiprakash Associates Ltd, a company of Rs. 7,000 crore Jaypee Group, plans to set up a coal-based power plant in Kutch district of Gujarat.
Apart from this, the company intends to put up 50 Mw solar power plant in the same region.
"The company is establishing 1320 Mw of thermal power project in Kutch and the approximate investment would be Rs. 6,000 crore," said a senior company officials. Jaiprakash Associates has already filed an industrial entrepreneurial memorandum (IEM) with the central government for the project.
It has also selected Kutch for 50 Mw solar power plant. "In case of solar power generation, the cost works out be Rs. 12 crore per Mw," said an industry source.
Recently, the company commissioned 2.4 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cement plant at Sewagram in Kutch involving an investment of Rs. 1,500 crore. This cement plant is company's first in the state.
Jaiprakash Associates seems to be betting big on Kutch. This could be guaged from the fact that it has chalked out plans to set up three cement plants in Gujarat with an overall capacity to produce about 12.2 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA). For this, the company is likely to invest close to over Rs 6,500 crore over the next few years.
The company is also considering to join hands with Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) as developer for setting up a mineral special economic zone in Kutch. Further, the group has already firmed up it plans to set up a large cement plant in the SEZ with a capacity of about 5 MMTPA.
