Jet Airways, opening a new flank in the fare war, has combined its Apex fare scheme with a holiday package for the forthcoming summer season.

Apex or advance purchase fares are special fares valid on the economy class in specified sectors. They are much lower than the normal fares.

Though Indian Airlines and Air Sahara have not yet formulated details, both the airlines are also reported to be planning to introduce similar packages in the market to take on the new competition.

According to market estimates, the Jet packages work out to be 20-25 per cent cheaper than the normal packages offered by travel companies. The scheme is valid from April 15 to September 30.

The Jet package is aimed at attracting Indian tourists who are cancelling bookings to popular destinations in south-east Asia owing to the severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) scare.
