Kanishk Steel Industries, manufacturers of TMT bars and structurals, has upgraded its testing equipment with the stationary metal analyser, SpectroMaxx Spectrometer from Germany, at an investment of Rs 26 lakh.

The stationery metal analyser will be used in its TMT and structurals production units at Gummidipoondi and the raw material (billet) production facility situated in Mayiladuthurai.

SpectroMaxx Spectrometer is a digitalised plasma generator that powers metal analysis to new levels of performance and employs the latest fully digitalised plasma generator source with current and voltage control, ensuring optimising sparking parameters and high precision.

With this, the testing equipment at the company's production facilities will ensure better, more efficient and accurate analysis in the quality of the products being manufactured.

SpectroMaxx's digitally controlled sample excitation system offers better reproducibility of results and increased flexibility.

SpectroMaxx, equipped with three special features for identification of bad samples having cracks or blowholes on the surfaces, can identify, indicate and reject the samples with bad surfaces, thereby making analyses more precise and correct. The very special patented ICAL software eliminates the need for expensive re-calibration samples.

In a press statement, Arvind Gupta, president, Kanishk Steel Industries, said; "We hope that the new machine will further enhance our stringent quality process and provide us competitive advantage in the entire process of manufacturing, from the selection of the raw material to the finished product".

To suit Kanishk Steel's requirements, SpectroMaxx has been fully calibrated for 26 elements and is provided with 34 channels. All poisonous elements can be analysed as per Euro and all other international standards.

A separate individual program for low alloy steel, covering 26 elements, has also been provided for Kanishk Steels Industries Ltd.

Kanishk Steel Industries Ltd is a part of OPG Enterprises Group and the steel related business are present in Chennai, Salem and Mayavaram in Tamil Nadu. The company has a turnover of Rs 163.54 crores and the group's turnover is Rs 500 crores for 2004-05.
