Lanco Infratech Ltd has awarded a Rs 265 crore contract to Alstom Projects India Ltd (APIL) to install a new power plant (Teesta Hydroelectric Project Stage VI) on the Teesta river in Sikkim.
The company said in a BSE filing that APIL would supply 4 x 125 MW Francis turbines and generators as well as the main inlet valves and control and protection systems, as per the contract agreement.
The contract also includes design, engineering, erection, testing and commissioning. The order will be fully executed by APIL’s facility in Vadodara, India, with the project scheduled for completion by 2013.
The river Teesta, fed by the snow and glaciers of Kanchenjungha and the great Himalayas, originates in north Sikkim at 8400 m above sea level. It is a perennial river flowing through the territories of Sikkim, West Bengal and Bangladesh forming the single major river in the state over a river length of 175 km making River Teesta an ideal source for hydropower generation.
