Korean consumer electronics giant LG Electronics India Private Limited (LGEIL) is looking to retain its leadership position in personal computer (PC) monitor sales.

LG has a market share of over 33 per cent in the domestic PC monitor segment, which is estimated to clock 5.8 million units during the current fiscal.

“We are confident of retaining our top position in the segment by launching new and innovative products,” LGEIL product group marketing head (IT) Sanjoy Bhattachartya said at a conference call here.

In the standalone monitor market share, LG commands a pie of 33.7 per cent and targets to increase it to 42 per cent by end of 2011.

He was in town to launch LG’s 3D Cinema Monitor, which is touted as the world’s slimmest LED monitor, in the Uttar Pradesh market.

“By launching LED monitors, we are not only eyeing the first time computer buyers, but also those customers, who want to upgrade to slim monitors from Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) display units,” he added.

With the launch of the new monitors range, LG expects to generate 10 per cent additional revenue in its IT division with marketing spent of ‘6.5 crore.

The penetration of PC in urban and rural India is pegged at 38 per cent and 5 per cent respectively. “The future growth of the segment would come from smaller towns and rural market, due to the huge untapped potential,” Bhattacharya added.
