Maggi gets a breather from Mamata

However further tests will be conducted as FSSAI has ordered a recall

Amidst raging controversy, Nestle India’s instant noodles Maggi got a breather from the West Bengal government.
 
The administration here has decided not to take any action against the instant noodles as no traces of materials beyond permissible limits have been found in the product.

“Samples of Maggi were collected and tested in five laboratories and no objectionable materials have been found in the product, so as of now we have decided not to ban the sale of the product,” said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the assembly.

But, she said that in light of the Food Standards and Safety Authority of India (FSSAI) ordering the recall of the products, further tests will be conducted on the product.

The sale of Maggi noodles is already banned in Nepal, Delhi and four more states of Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand after concerns were raised over presence of monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead beyond permissible levels in the product.
