Food and allied industries leads the pack with an investment of around Rs 1349.93 crore. There are about 26498 units in this sector, generating 142016 jobs. This is followed by repairing and servicing industry with an investment of about Rs 966.23 crore.
Other categories of MSME industries with substantial investments include engineering and metal based units (Rs 960.78 crore), glass and ceramics (Rs 593.92 crore), chemical and allied industries (Rs 231.59 crore).

The 457 livestock and leather MSME units in the state with an investment of about Rs 7.65 crore have created 2576 jobs.
An amount of Rs 508.53 crore has been invested on 7569 units operating under the District Industries Centre (DIC), Bhubaneswar. This is the maximum amount invested in any of the DICs or Regional Industries Centres (RICs) operating in the state. There are 26 DICs and five RICs in the state.
As many as 2969 MSME units have been set up under the chemical, pollution or hazardous category.
Odisha was ranked by industry chamber Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) as the fifth leading state to facilitate growth in SME sector by generating over 21,000 jobs between April 2011 and February 2012.
