MTNL Q3 net down 53.19%

A MIXED THIRD QUARTER FOR INDIA INC

Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) posted net profit of Rs 97.63 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 2007, lower by 53.19 per cent, compared with Rs 208.60 crore recorded during the comparable quarter of the previous financial year.

The company's total income for the reporting quarter fell to Rs 1,428.02 crore from Rs 1,326.91 crore posted during the comparable period a year ago.

The company's shares close at Rs 123.40 a share on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday, lower by 6.62 per cent from the previous close of Rs 132.15 a share.
