ni-msme training programmes in food processing

The National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (ni-msme) is planning to conduct a number of entrepreneurship development programmes in food processing in this year.

“Food security and food processing is an emerging segment. It is a challenging venture, as government follows strict norms and various quality standards for food products. So, we aim to provide training in food processing and promote individuals to start their venture in this segment,” said ni-msme director general Chukka Kondaiah.

To mark its golden jubilee celebration next month, the institute plans to train 25,000 youth this year from different sectors, including 10,000 from Hyderabad.

The state has around 700 engineering colleges, which churn 250,000 engineering students per year. “We aim to provide the unemployed youth self-employment or assist them in setting up small enterprises,” he said.

It would train in trades such as IT, 2D and 3D animation, Java, mobile service, gems and jewellery, travel and hospitality, food and forest-based enterprises. For women, it would provide training in tailoring, embroidery, etc.

Ni-msme recorded Rs 20.80 crore revenues last fiscal, by catering to 23,000 participants. “It was the highest-ever revenue, which increased 247 per cent over Rs 8.41 crore registered in 2009,” he added.
