Constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 611 crore, the 45-Mw Nimoo-Bazgo hydroelectric project, is scheduled to be completed by August next year to ease the power crisis in this border district, NHPC Executive Director Jatinder Singh told Governor N N Vohra.
The project, located about 70 km from Leh at Alchi, is scheduled to be commissioned in August 2010 and harnesses the hydel-power potential of river Indus.
The project will have three units of 15 Mw each and produce 239.33 million units of power annually, Singh said.
Briefing the Governor about the salient features of the project, Singh said the power generated from this project will go a long way in meeting the electricity requirements of the people of the Ladakh region.
The Governor, who took keen interest in varied aspects of this project, was informed that 60 per cent of the work on concreting the dam has been completed so far, while the remaining 40 per cent should be accomplished by August 2010.
A deputation of the people of Alchi who met the Governor demanded that the power generated from the Nimoo-Bazgo project should be supplied to them at concessional rates and people from the village should be given employment through the project.
Vohra discussed the employment issue with the NHPC Executive Director and the Deputy Commissioner of Leh District.
Earlier, the Governor laid the foundation stone of 66/11 KV, 6.3 MVA electric Sub-Station at Bazgo. The Sub-Station will be one of the six such Sub-Stations being constructed in the area under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojna.
The work on all the six Sub-Stations has commenced and is scheduled to be completed by October 2010.
