State-owned NTPC is likely to float the Rs 25,000 crore global tender tomorrow for procuring power equipment for 11 units of 660 Mw each.

"The tender for sourcing equipment for 11 supercritical units of 660 Mw each is likely to be floated on October 16," power ministry sources said.

The 11 units include nine units of NTPC and two units of Damodar Valley Corporation. Supercritical units are environment friendly and improve the efficiency of thermal power projects. The 11 units are to be used in five power projects in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

NTPC will invite separate international competitive bids (ICB) for boiler and steam turbine generator (STG) sets, i.E 11 boilers, generators and turbines.

The Cabinet committee on infrastructure (CCI) gave its approval to the bulk tender last month.

The tender is part of a government initiative to induct new energy efficient technology in the country by encouraging companies to set up manufacturing facilities here.

So far, five companies—BHEL, L&T-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) combine, Alstom-Bharat Forge, Toshiba-JSW and Italian company Ansaldo Caldie have expressed their interest in participating in the bulk tendering for supercritical equipment.
