State-run NTPC today said it would invest over Rs 24,000 crore to set up two power projects in Orissa in the 12th five-year plan with a view to augmenting generating capacity by about 4,500 MW in the state.
"Two super thermal power projects will be set up at Darlipali in Sundargarh district and Gajmara in Dhenkanal district at an approximate cost of Rs 24,000 crore," NTPC Regional Executive Director (East-II), Jayadeb Nanda told reporters here.
Stating that both the projects were proposed to be commissioned during the 12th five-year plan, Nanda said land acquisition was likely to be completed by June this year while the company ready for global tendering for procurement of equipment and machinery.
For the proposed project at Darlipali with a capacity of 2X800 MW, NTPC would have coal linkage of seven mtpa from Dulunga and 12.5 mtpa from Pakri Barwadih blocks which had been allotted to it.
With an estimated cost of Rs 12,850.07 crore, round levelling work for the Darlipali power project would be launched soon after land acquisition. It would draw water from Hirakud reservoir on Mahanadi river, he said.
Referring to Gajmara project, Nanda said it would be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 12,636.83 crore for instllation of 2X800 mw plant.
Apart from establishment of the two major projects, NTPC would undertake major expansion of the Talcher super thermal power plant at Kaniha in Angul district, he said.
Envisaged to raise the capacity by 2X600 mw, the expansion programme was expected to be implemented during the first year of the 12th five-year plan, he said.
The new projects and expansion activities would raise generation capacity of NTPC in the state by abvout 4,500 mw against the present capacity of 3,460 mw.
The Talcher super thermal power project at Kaniha has a capacity of 3,000 mw and Talcher thermal power station at Talcher produces about 460 mw of power, Nanda said.
