Ola eyes 2 mn auto bookings a day by 2017

Ola on Wednesday launched its autorickshaw service in 12 fast-growing Tier-II markets — Bhopal, Ranchi, Bhubaneswar, Kota, Surat, Madurai, Guwahati, Coimbatore, Nagpur, Jodhpur, Visakhapatnam and Udaipur. This takes the app-based taxi-hailing company’s auto-booking service to 24 cities across the country.

The 24 cities in which Ola Auto is present alone have over three million autorickshaws, doing well over 30 million rides a day. Ola is targeting to serve at least two million daily rides by the end of 2017 through its app.

“With autorickshaws available in all of these 24 cities, we are also widening the choice of urban mobility for citizens over and above our current offerings like Micro and Mini in these markets, taking us closer to our mission of building mobility for a billion Indians,” Nitesh Prakash, senior director (operations) at Ola, said in a statement.  

The Ola app for auto-drivers is available in eight languages — English, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. Ola has over 100,000 autorickshaws registered on its platform across 24 cities.
