The pharmaceutical industry in Andhra Pradesh did not experience any growth during October 2005-March 2006, according to a survey conducted by the southern region of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
 
Production, sales and profit margins remained stagnant and the value of production showed a marginal decrease of 5-10 per cent.
 
The industry expects the production to increase marginally up to five per cent in the first six months of 2006-07. Exports may increase by 5-10 per cent.
 
The survey says that the industry, which has been facing an insufficient supply of raw material, seeks more favourable licensing policy with respect to pollution control. It is also looking at reduction in import and Customs duty besides a single VAT rate throughout the country, it adds.
 
On the other hand, the IT industry in the state registered a 50-60 per cent increase in overseas billing and a 20-25 per cent increase in revenues.
 
The industry predicts a 25-30 per cent increase in order book position and an increase in revenue of 20-25 per cent. Its area of concerns include slow networks, lack of qualified manpower and high rate of mobility of people.
 
The state textile industry too registered growth in production, sales and exports in the range of 15-20 per cent and is looking at extension of the technology upgradation fund rebate of five per cent for five more years.
 
The manufacturing industry's production and sales have shown a growth rate of 10-15 per cent and 20 per cent respectively. Value of production is expected to increase by 20-25 per cent with respect to a 10-15 per cent increase in production from April-September 2006. The industry is, however, losing skilled manpower to the IT industry.
 
The agro-based industry registered a growth rate of 10 per cent both in production and sales.
 
The industry is expected to register a 10-15 per cent increase in production and five per cent increase in sales during April"�September 2006. Quality and cost of research and development service providers and high prices of raw material are areas of concern.
