Focusing on helping developers build, run, test and share APIs (Application Programming Interface), Postman claims its toolkit is used by over three million engineers and developers across the globe from some of the largest tech, retail and manufacturing companies.
"We created Postman to address issues that I confronted personally as a developer, and our overwhelming market acceptance shows that this was a critical need," said Abhinav Asthana, co-founder and CEO of Postman, in a statement. "The need for Postman in an API developer's workflow will only grow as this market expands."
The number of public APIs has increased from 5,000 at the start of 2012 to nearly 16,000 today. Moreover, as developers in both small and large firms begin to build more connected applications and software, they're increasingly using APIs and this trend is only expected to grow more rapidly in the future.
Postman claims to have over 1.5 million monthly active users spread across 30,000 companies and provides its apps on Chrome, Windows and Mac for free. The firm also offers a paid service Postman Cloud that provides additional testing, collaboration and documentation tools. The company did not reveal how many of its users pay for its service.
"Every developer in the world will benefit from using Postman," said Jishnu Bhattacharjee, Managing Director of Nexus Venture Partners. "Postman is at the very center of the industry of connected software and poised for huge growth."
The firm today counts large companies such as Box, Walgreens, Intuit, IBM, VMware and Apigee among its users. It also says 61 Fortune 100 companies, nine out of the top ten cloud services, nine out of ten top retailers and six out of the top ten manufacturing companies use its services.
