Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure (R-Infra) today said the work on widening one of its road projects connecting Bengaluru and Chennai has been started.
"Reliance Infrastructure commences operations on its fourth road project connecting Bengaluru and Chennai, part of Golden Quadrilateral. The toll collections and widening operations from four to six lanes, started from today," the company said in a statement.
The project, awarded to the infrastructure firm by National Highway Authority of India under the competitive bidding process, is being executed on build, operate and transfer basis and has a concession period of 26 years.
"The new six lanes corridor will be able to manage increased capacity of 72,000 vehicles, once widening is complete. The expansion of the road...Once completed will additionally ease the current traffic conditions, reduce travelling time and increase driving comfort," it said.
At the toll plazas, the infrastructure firm will also introduce various services including medical and patrolling. Road furniture, including road signs, pavement markings, that hat will enhance safety for the users will also be included, it added.
"R-Infra will use Advanced Toll Management Services at the toll plazas to automate tolling and streamline the toll collection. Highway Toll Management System used on the project site will provide CCTVs, speed detectors and other services to monitor traffic flow on the road," the statement said.
