Reliance Infrastructure, part of the Anil Ambani group has invited bids from Indian as well as foreign companies to procure 1,500 Mw of power to meet demand for its Mumbai distribution licence area.

A tender floated by the company said it "intends to procure power on "round the clock" basis for a period of 25 years with power supply starting from 48 months to 60 months from the date of signing of relevant documents".

The company received approval to invite bids for procuring power from Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission last week.      The company which distributes about 1,400 Mw power, mainly in Mumbai suburbs, currently procures 500 Mw from its own plant at Dahanu, about 500 Mw from Tata Power and the remaining from the open market.

However, Tata Power has told Reliance Infra that it would not supply power from next year which has prompted the company to look for alternatives. The procurement through the tender may not solve the company's immediate requirement but would help it augment the power supply in future.
