Reliance Industries rose by nearly 2 per cent to hit a one-month high at the Bombay Stock Exchange on heavy buying by investors, driving the broader market index Sensex up.
Shares of the index heavyweight gained 1.85 per cent to touch a month-high of Rs 1,067.70 on BSE in morning trade. The scrip had closed nearly 1 per cent up at Rs 1,048.25 in the previous trading session.
RIL moved up by 1.46 per cent to Rs 1,065 on the National Stock Exchange.
In terms of volume, over 22 lakh shares of the energy major were traded within the first hour of the trade.
The BSE oil and gas index was quoting higher by 126.27 points at 10,931.93, led by gains in major energy companies, including ONGC which was up 0.76 per cent, Cairn India 2.71 per cent, Gail (India) 0.95 per cent, Essar Oil 2.08 per cent.
Driven by gains in RIL, the broader gauge Sensex was trading up 88 points at 20,334.83 points.
