The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) plans to raise the steel consumption in Himachal Pradesh so that it reaches the national average, top SAIL officials said on Monday. “There is a lot of scope of raising steel consumption in Himachal infrastructure projects. The current consumption is 16 kg per head and we want to raise this to atleast the national average of 46 kg per head,” said Steel Secretary, Atul Chaturvedi.
“As SAIL is planning to set up steel projects in Kangra, Sirmaur and Mandi districts, there is a lot of scope for involving the local entrepreneurs for producing stainless steel, tmt and other steel items in these projects,” he said. “SAIL will also help these entrepreneurs in marketing their products,” he said. Asked about the proposed steel plant site in Sirmaur district he said the state government had shown a site which SAIL is considering.
