Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of Galaxy Tab, its tablet personal computer, at a price of Rs 38,000, to take on the the might of Apple's iPad, which is still to be officially launched but is already available at a much steeper price of Rs 48,000 in the grey market.
Galaxy, to be sold from November 10, has a display screen of seven inches, while the iPad has 9.7 inches. Both have 3G and Wi-fi connectivity, apart from features such as high-storage memory.
A tablet PC has PC-like functionalities. With third-generation mobile services expected to be launched soon, the companies are looking to tap the market through various devices, this being one.
“The Indian tablet PC market is expected to be around a million units in the next year,” said Samsung Electronics’ director, mobile and IT, Ranjit Yadav.
