Satyam Computer lines up Kolkata base

Information technology major Satyam Computer Services signed a memorandum of understanding with the West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Ltd (Webel) for setting up its development center in Kolkata.
 
The MoU was signed in the presence of West Bengal chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee and Satyam's chairman B Ramalinga Raju in Kolkata yesterday.
 
Satyam currently has development centers in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Pune and Mumbai. The decision to set up base in Kolkata was part of Satyam's overall expansion plan to geographically broad-base its operations in the country.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Raju said "Kolkata is developing into a promising destination for it companies. It has talented manpower and good infrastructural facilities. Also, Kolkata is well-connected to major international cities. We are happy to be investing in Kolkata and hope to develop out center into a major it hub."
 
Welcoming Satyam's decision to set up operations in Kolkata, the chief minister said "IT is a priority sector for my government. The state has, among other advantages, a huge reservoir of talent. We value Satyam's presence which will bring about a significant contribution to the it industry."
