Shimla hospital gets only MDCT machine in South Asia

The Indira Gandhi Medical College(IGMC) here has become the only medical college in the country to acquire a high-tech 64-slice multdetector computed tomography (MDCT) machine.

“This MDCT machine cost Rs 6.6 crore and is the first of its kind in South Asia,” said Chief Minister P K Dhumal. This latest MDCT is capable of scanning the complete human body within ten seconds.The radiation exposure is considerably lower than the older machines,doctors said.

Projects worth Rs 17.2 crore including the MDCT machine, the telecobalt unit has been installed among others projects in IGMC.

Dhumal also inaugurated the first eye bank in IGMC in collaboration with the eye bank of government medical college Chandigarh.
