Shipping Corporation of India Chairman S Hajara on Wednesday warned Kolkata Port Trust on long-term prospects of the port due to the cost issue.
“In the long run it will go against the interest of the industry as cost of cargo to KoPT will be higher due to inability of the port to handle large vessels,” SCI chairman S Hajara said on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee of the Indian Institute of Management.
He, however, expected that the port authorities would take appropriate steps to overcome it.
Reacting to the exit of Haldia Bulk Terminals from Haldia, he said the business environment has to be conducive. Referring to its impact in West Bengal, he said when such things happened it had long-term impact on further investments.
