The industrial disruptions in Singur may have wider repercussions, as the government might go slow some crucial social infrastructure projects.
The state would think twice before acquiring land for projects like health city, hinted Surya Kanta Mishra, minister for health and family welfare, West Bengal at seminar on healthcare in Kolkata on Wednesday.
It may be noted, in 2005 the West Bengal government had initiated discussions with Indonesian company Salim Group , which was subject to the Nandigram fiasco, to set up a health city in the state.
Leading hospital chains were expected to join hands to set up a health city to be constructed by the Salim Group, spread over roughly 800 acre land.
"Let us see. If some one asks back the land after setting up the health city, that will be a problem," said Mishra in response to a question on the status of the health city.
Earlier, Naresh Trehan had expressed interest in setting up a medicity spread over 50 acre land in the state. Anil Ambani had shown interest in setting up a healthcare facility, Dhirubhai Ambani Health City, on 60 acres at Kalyani.
