Six international airlines have expressed their interest in operating flights from here, Kolkata Airport Advisory Committee Chairman, Saugata Roy said today.

The airlines are based in Dubai, Mauritius, Japan and three other countries, Roy told reporters here.

The airlines which had already suspended operations from the city should be persuaded to resume business from Kolkata, the minister of state for urban development said.

To that end the state government has been requested to move the Centre, he said.

To a query, he reiterated that the modernisation programme of the NSC Bose airport would end in March next and it would be operational from June 2012.
